About AHEAD
The Association for
Higher Education and Development (AHEAD) is a voluntary, not-for-profit and
non-political organization founded in Ottawa, Canada, in 1999. Goal: I.To contribute towards
development efforts in Ethiopia by mobilizing, coordinating and channelling the
necessary resources and relevant expertise to Ethiopian higher academic
institutions.
Objectives: II.To assist
in the capacity building of the Addis Ababa University by responding to academic, infrastructure and resource needs.
III.To mobilize Ethiopians in
the Diaspora and facilitate their contributions to and role in development
undertakings in higher academic institutions in Ethiopia.
IV.To facilitate partnership
between Ethiopian academic institutions and
governmental, non-governmental and international organizations.
Principles: The founding members
of AHEAD are governed by the following principles: Be Results
Oriented: We seek to achieve
concrete, measurable and meaningful results in all activities undertaken in the
name of AHEAD. Take Time To
Grow: Our slogan is: “A
book at a time and a student a year”. We are not in a rush to grow in number,
organization or activity. Our growth will
be determined by the results we can achieve, not by the amount of activities we
can undertake. Stay Focussed: All our activities have a single focus. We do not wish to broaden our scope such that we lose sight of
our priorities and fail in our objectives. Build
Credibility: AHEAD
should prove, in deed, that it is a serious, credible and reliable organization
committed to its stated objectives. Maintain
Partnership: We cannot do it
alone. We are only one of the many
players. We must not only build but maintain partnership based on mutual
respect and understanding. Have
Accountability: As a
beneficiary of voluntary time, resources and expertise, AHEAD will ensure a
transparent accountability for each and every activity it undertakes. Ensure
Sustainability: AHEAD is a
catalyst. Its interest is to facilitate institutional development and not to
create dependency of institutions. It
will, therefore, ensure that it is engaged in projects that are truly
responsive to identified needs and are sustainable. |
