Addis Bazaar Is Back

On September 7, 2002, Addis Bazaar, our annual fund-raising event, is coming back to the Christ Church Cathedral (Sparks at Bronson) in Ottawa.  The program runs from 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Addis Bazaar is AHEAD’s main fund-raising event that brings together some 200 people who support our cause and enjoy a day of unique bazaar display and delectable cuisine.

This year, the Honourable Senator Wilbert Keon, Mr. Benyam Kebede and the Tis Abay Musical Band will be honoured in recognition of their support to AHEAD. Our Patron Senator Donald Oliver will present them with a Certificate of Recognition and they will join the large AHEAD family of supporters and friends like you. More importantly, the much needed resources will go towards the AHEAD Bursary Program for Medical Students. The first batch of 18 medical students sponsored in 1999 will now enter their third and last year of the bursary. As of next year, they will start their internship, but we will continue to support new students. In September 2002, the Bursary Program will have a total of 54 medical students from Jimma, Gondar and Addis Ababa faculties.

We are particularly proud to say that we have received an IDRC funding for a research project that will study the role of the African Diaspora in Africa’s capacity building. Moreover, earlier this year, we, in collaboration with our partner, the Getachew Bolodia Foundation, opened a Resource Centre in Jimma, with the support of the Canadian Embassy in Ethiopia.

Once more, please keep this date in your calendar and come with friends and family. Tickets are only for $20.  For tickets, please contact us by e-mail at: ahead@aheadonline.org  or call us at 727-2735. You will also be contacted by volunteers who will be selling tickets.

Once more, we look forward to seeing you on September 7th.
