Engaging the expertise of Ethiopian-Canadians for development

When: Tuesday, 31 August 2004,12:00-13:30
Where: 250 Albert Street, Zone 3, 14th Floor (Ottawa)

You are invited to a lunchtime presentation by Ms. Ainalem Tebeje,

Vice-President of the Association for Higher Education and Development.

AHEAD is a non-profit organization of Ethiopian-Canadians working toward the advancement of education in their homeland.

Over the last three decades Ethiopia has experienced an “alarming” loss of skilled professionals to the North. In 2002, in an effort to combat this shortfall, AHEAD initiated a novel study to examine how the African Diaspora can play a role in capacity building efforts on the continent.  Using Ethiopia as a case study, the research attempted to determine to what extent such Diaspora engagement is relevant, effective and sustainable.

Ms. Ainalem Tebeje will present the study’s findings, which AHEAD believes will bring a new focus to addressing one of Africa's most serious challenges.

This project was made possible by a Canadian Partnerships grant. For more information please visit: www.aheadonline.org

Organized by: Gisèle Morin-Labatut.
