In Tribute of Cathy Belanger

A Tribute to Cathy Belanger

AHEAD lost a dear friend, Ms. Cathy Belanger, who died on January 17, 2003 in Ottawa, Canada.  While Cathy’s death represents a profound loss to AHEAD, we celebrate the life of this wonderful volunteer.

Cathy’s Remarkable Legacy

In her professional life, Cathy earned respect and admiration for her sense of duty and team-work. As a community member, she exemplified the best of Canadian society for her ability to accept and integrate into diversity, as a wife and mother, Cathy was known for her pride in her family: Her husband Phil Rodrigue and her two sons: Marc and Andrew.

AHEAD is Proud to Call Cathy a Friend

In 2000, (please click here to view the pictures) Cathy came to our first fund-raising with her son, Marc, who has since been one of our youth volunteers.

In 2001, Cathy was the only volunteer assigned to the entrance of our fund-raising event, where she was to check for tickets. With her beaming smile and gentle personality, this proved difficult since Cathy made everybody, including gatecrashers, feel welcome. When she was told to get tough and look mean, Cathy politely asked for a different assignment.

In September 2002, Cathy brought Phil and Andrew to AHEAD’s fund-raising event for the first time – with Cathy and Marc already named Friends of AHEAD, the circle was now complete.

 A Bond Created

In December 2002, (please click here to view the pictures of the cheque hand over ceremony) Cathy and Phil made a donation of $5,000 to AHEAD to be used as a memorial fund in the name of their late parents and a bond was created between a family and a modest association.  This bond between the Rodrigue family and AHEAD today stands as a symbol of the legacy of Cathy Belanger.
